Press release – Mobi Mushrooms

Rhenen, November 8, 2023 — The mushroom is a beautifully sustainable and healthy product and now also local thanks to innovative indoor farming in a mobile container. Mobi Mushroom is an initiative of mushroom fanatic Kees de Jong and farm shop expert Hans Ravensbergen. In collaboration with mushroom producer and importer Mitrofresh, they developed an innovative container in which shiitake mushrooms are grown in a controlled environment. This innovative approach to farming promises sustainability, efficiency and a continuous supply of high-quality mushrooms, all locally.

The Dutch agricultural sector faces numerous challenges, including climate change, soil shortage, protein transition and environmental pressure. Growing mushrooms in containers provides an answer to these challenges and provides several benefits:

• Sustainability: Growing mushrooms in containers can significantly reduce water consumption and produce little to no harmful emissions.
• Efficiency: The controlled environment of the container provides optimal growing conditions, maximizing production capacity.
• Quality: Consumers can enjoy high-quality, tasty mushrooms with consistent quality throughout the year.
• Local: By growing the mushrooms on site, we reduce the need for long-distance transport, which reduces the ecological footprint. The project also creates an additional revenue model for local farmers and therefore has a positive effect on the local economy.
• Healthy: Mushrooms are rich in nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and they are naturally low in calories and fat, and they provide immune support.
• protein transition: Mushrooms provide an excellent meat alternative for vegetarians and vegans, allowing them to enjoy a protein-rich food.

To demonstrate this new innovation and tell more about the potential for the agricultural sector, Mobi Mushroom is organizing an event on Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Binnenveld farm in Rhenen where the first container is operational.
