The Oakland Student's Viral 'Symphony of Mushrooms'

Ethan McMurray, a sophomore and music major at Oakland University, has become a viral sensation
with its unique “little symphony of mushrooms”.

Inspired by a TikTok video of a singing mushroom, McMurray decided to create a piece of classical music
to compose around this special idea. He posted his composition on Instagram, where it quickly
more than 10 million views.

His creative interpretation was praised for its playful, almost Disney-esque quality and quickly attracted
the attention of major media outlets. McMurray was interviewed by, among others,
The Today Show, where he talked about his inspiration and creative process.

As a violinist and aspiring composer, McMurray continues to explore music composition under supervision
from his professors at Oakland University. His work demonstrates how classical music and modern
Internet culture can reinforce each other in surprising ways.

With his innovative approach, McMurray proves that even everyday subjects — like mushrooms —
can grow into a globally shared creative experience.
