Mushrooms can lower the risk of cancer
Researchers noted that people who add a lot of mushrooms to their diet have a lower chance of developing cancer. They reviewed and analyzed data from more than 19.500 cancer patients from 17 cancer and mushroom studies. Just 18 grams of mushrooms per day can reduce the risk of cancer by 45%. The researchers suspect that the ergothioneine present in mushrooms is responsible for these healthy effects. It is a powerful antioxidant and protector of cell damage. So regularly add (chestnut) mushrooms, shiitake or chanterelles to your meals. The choice in supermarkets is increasingly extensive these days, organic variants of most mushrooms are available for sale.
